WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — Travelers planning a visit to the Lincoln Memorial will soon be able to go beneath the monument for the first time, as the National Park Service opens its long-hidden undercroft to the public on June 25, 2026.
Admission will be free, but advance timed-entry reservations carry a $1 service fee, the park service said. Tickets can be booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.
Same-day tickets will be distributed starting at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial, according to the park service.
The park service describes the undercroft as a 15,000-square-foot exhibit area that has been hidden since the memorial opened in 1922. It says the space will include interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations about the monument’s construction and its place in American history and civil rights.
The National Park Foundation is funding the project with the park service. Project materials also describe views of the undercroft’s structural foundation through floor-to-ceiling glass.
